Kate’s mom, addicted to meth, viewed her daughter as nothing more than a way to get more drugs. When Kate was eleven years old, her mom forced her to have sex with drug runners. The men threatened to kill her if she told anyone. Terrified and violently abused, Kate became almost unrecognizable.
Kate’s aunt discovered the abuse and immediately reached out to the Center for the Rights of Abused Children. We helped bring Kate to safety and facilitated her adoption to her aunt. Today, Kate has a new identity and is working to heal with the constant love and support of her aunt.
It’s a terrible truth that most trafficking is perpetrated by family members.
Child victims, like Kate, should have the right to an attorney, just like the criminally accused. We are committed to making sure all child abuse victims are afforded basic constitutional rights including the right to counsel.
